Hi All,
Thanks for visiting here.
Today i want to share my tour experience in Ooty and munnar.
Hope this will help/guide you for your next trips, if not do comment your questions. hope i can answer. :-)
you can reach ooty from either Coimbatore airport or from cochin. my experience is with coimbatore. so i can guide on this way. From coimbatore airport: one way is to book a cab directly to ooty. second cheap and convenient way with great experiences is by train. If you reach it before 4 AM you can catch 5 AM (arrival) neelagiri express which will start at 5:30 AM (departure) from coimbatore railway station. you need to get down at Mettupalyam railwaystation which takes not more than 1 hour. Here (mettupalyam) you need to catch the already waiting train (this is a connecting train. so it will wait untill neelagiri exp reaches mettupalyam) sometimes called as toy train (it is a metre guage train with Rack and pinion tracks) refer here. its actual start time is 7:10 AM. once you get into it. Its a great experience travelling all through the hilly areas and valleys. There are First class and second class seats available for this train. both are same and with minute differences but cost varies much. you can also avail the option of tatkal for urgency in this route/train. but pre booking is must. though this didtance from mettupalyam to ooty is below 50kms , it will take around 5 hrs in toy train. because this route is complex and the train has to travel hilly region so its speed dont cross 10kmph. but i am sure you will enjoy this ride. For any trip pre-booking of hotels/rooms is must. it will help you in reducing costs and make your trip a planned event. before booking rooms check for all the feedback from previous customers in that room (ex:goibibo, trivago makemytrip etc) Make sure your room is near to the city and have good transport/connectivity, otherwise you need to feed the autowalas even for your breakfast. Here i need to say one thing, Food in these places (ooty and munnar) is very costly and limited. Also the food is not at all tasty. (i am from south)
Will be continued.... (do comment your quries.. happy to answer)
